IRS 2290 Amendments

The 2290 amendments online process is a part of IRS form 2290. It is used to make 2290 corrections to the previously filed returns.

2290 tax amendments are of three types as mentioned below:

At eForm2290, 2290 amendments e-filing can be done easily.

These are the Scenarios where you can Use 2290 Amendments Online:

  1. Increase in your Vehicle Taxable Gross Weight

If you find any mistakes that might have occurred during filing your form 2290 return or if the vehicle information gets changed from the previously filed 2290 truck tax, you must correct your form 2290 returns. You will have to use 2290 amendments e-file to report to the IRS by the last day of the month and the month in which the taxable gross weight increased.
This particular type of amendment is e-filed if the taxable gross weight of your vehicle gets increased during the tax period and it falls into a new category (The Category types are between A to V).
Note: You will have to calculate and pay an additional tax for entering into a new category.

  2. Exceed in the mileage use limit

If you have filed your vehicle as suspended and expected it to operate within the mileage use limit of 5,000 miles or less (7,500 miles or less for agricultural vehicles) and later, over a period of time, if the mileage use limit exceeds, then you will need to file 2290 amendments online. The additional tax amount for this increase in mileage use limit must be mentioned in the IRS 2290 amendments.
You must report this by the last day of the month and then the month in which the mileage use limit increased. At eForm2290, we make this entire process very simple and quick. For more information on 2290 amendments online, keep reading our blogs and visit our website.

  3. VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) Correction

If you have mentioned incorrect VIN in the previously filed form 2290, you will need to make corrections using 2290 online amendments. VIN corrections can be filed for both taxable or suspended vehicles (not for credit vehicles or previous year’s suspended vehicles).
Even though VIN correction is part of form 2290 amendments e-filing, it needs to be reported separately. At eForm2290, we offer you free VIN correction using 2290 tax amendments and also provide stamped Schedule 1 copy in minutes.
